  • Moose Musings: The East Coast Custom Knife Show

Greetings from The Proper Moose: Cool new products from the East Coast Custom Knife Show

The Proper Moose in NYC The Proper Moose in NYC

Mortimer B. Moose here, reporting from my most recent adventure scouring the world for the best new products to bring to YOU, my friends and customers.

This weekend found me treking south from Newton, MA to Jersey City, NJ (just across the Hudson River from the beautiful New York skyline) to attend the East Coast Custom Knife Show. Accompanied by my (and Proper Moose) associates Jeff and Janet, I browsed a selection of custom knives from around the world including new products from one of our favorite vendors, Michael Zieba, of Brooklyn, NY.

Look for several of his beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind kitchen knives on our site very soon, along with an exceptional new oyster knife he designed at the urging (and with some input) from Jeff.

Be sure you’re on our email list to be notified when these new products are in stock.

    Your friend,
    Mort

    About the Kikuichi Brand

A 700 year old family tradition of unsurpassed craftsmanship, Kikuichi is the ONLY Japanese cutlery manufacturer with the true legacy of a Samurai swordsmith. For most of their long storied history, Kikuichi manufactured Samurai swords that bore the Emperor’s Chrysanthemum symbol (or “Kiku-no-mon”) as a mark of their excellence. Today, that same symbol appears on all of their knives. No one else in Japan is allowed the same privilege. When you purchase any Kikuichi knife, you will own a piece of history and unsurpassed craftsmanship like no other.

  • A Beginner's Guide to Wet Shaving

We recently discovered Prim & Prep, a website devoted to male grooming techniques and reviews. The following is from Ben Rose of Prim & Prep, our guest blogger and Wet Shaving expert -

Like death and taxes, shaving is one of those things that all men have to deal with. While tax day only comes once a year and death is, well… death, shaving is a thoroughly unenjoyable part of the daily routine. Cuts and nicks; irritation, razor burn and ingrown hairs—they’re all just part of being a man. Or are they?

While many men still struggle daily with these common shaving problems, it doesn’t have to be this way. You may think that shaving has to be an awful experience, but that’s just because you haven’t yet discovered that there is a better way. Don’t worry though, as you’re not alone and there are millions out there just like you. Fortunately, Prim&Prep recently published A Beginner’s Guide to Wet Shaving infographic that describes what the better way is and why you should be using it.

To look your best, you’ve got to be at your best, and it all starts with the morning routine. So stop shaving like a chump and learn the secrets to shave like a champ.

  • Mort's Travel Journal: Posting from the Dominican Republic, March 2015

Our favorite Proper Moose mascot, Mortimer B. Moose (aka Mort) has been a busy traveler this past winter. In search of warmer climes in an attempt to escape the Boston Blizzard of 2015, Mort secured a passport, outfitted himself with tropical gear, and set off on a Caribbean adventure with his Proper Moose co-owners Janet and Jeff.

When not sunning, dancing, or trying out the local rums, Mort was busy thinking of ideas for new products to introduce to his Proper Moose fans and customers. Watch our site in the coming weeks and months to see what exciting new items he's found for your cooking, grooming, and gifting pleasure!
