Nontron: It’s a name that represents a way of life, tradition and the name of France's first and oldest knife (from 1653). Nontron knives have been made by hand in the Perigord region of France in the tiny village of Nontron. Each knife is an original work, the blade is forged from steel that’s been tempered in the iron-rich water of the Perigord, with a handle shaped from locally grown boxwood (first air dried for 5 years) then hand decorated with traditional wood-burned pyrographic figures depicting a way of rural life going back 500 years.

The methods and techniques in use today to make these truly beautiful, yet so functional paring knives have remained virtually the same since the 15th century. Individual craftsmen use rasps, anvils and finishing tools to create a work of folk artistry one at a time. A small knot or a particular ripple in the grain of the boxwood or a slight difference in the wood burned figures which encircle the handle are characteristics that help to ensure that every Nontron knife is as distinctive and unique as its maker – and its owner.

When you purchase any Nontron knife, you will own a piece of history and unsurpassed craftsmanship like no other.
