Features

Handle: Desert Ironwood (olneya tesota), which grows predominantly in the Sonora Desert of Arizona, is one of the most beautiful and sought after woods in the world. It has a very durable, tight grained figure and is one of the densest and most stable woods on earth.  So dense that it will not float in water, and so hard that it has been used for bearings.  Desert Ironwood does not splinter when shaping and it holds a great translucent finish.  This hardness, beautiful grain, and coloring make it ideal for knife handles.  And tradition has it that carvings made from Desert Ironwood bring good fortune and long life, too.

Blade: Grade 304 Stainless Steel is the standard “18/8” stainless (18% chromium and 8% nickel) and the most versatile and most widely used stainless steel available (it was a key component in the construction of the St. Louis Arch).  Its key characteristics of corrosion / oxidation resistance (think salt water) and excellent toughness, along with ease of cleaning and beauty of appearance, make it ideal for use as an oyster knife blade.

Lanyard: The handle includes a leather lanyard used to secure the knife to the wrist.
